Pink is the New Blog *

Pink is the New Blog

Pink is the New Blog,” is a  blog about celebrities, music, and all things pop culture.  I’m not sure what value this website brings to the online community other than existing for people that are bored with their lives.  If you like Perez Hilton, Entertainment Tonight, or are up at 4am on an all-night coke binge, you may enjoy this blog.  If you’re trying to build value or enrich your life in some way, you may want to steer clear of this site and find something educational.  That being said, I think Trent Vanegas (the sites author) accomplished his mission in creating this blog.  The site is loud, cluttered, and not very easy to navigate, just what the targeted reader of this blog needs in order to stay lost for a couple hours trying to peruse the site.

Final Review *

I give “Pink is the New Blog,” a 1-star Chowerhead rating.  The site is not easy to navigate and I can’t tell where ads end and site content begins.  The pink lettering is difficult to read and gave me a headache after a few paragraphs.  The pink background image almost induced a seizure.  There’s a “categories” section in the right side-bar… is anybody using this?  I couldn’t give Trent worse than a 1-star Chowderhead rating because while the site is pretty awfully designed, I think he puts in a lot of effort to get his content.

Design *** The design of this site is awful in my opinion.  The colors are loud and the content is cluttered.  There’s too much information in the right side-bar and I think the “categories” section is pretty much useless.

Content + I personally think the content is useless, but for those looking for this type of material I think Trent puts in a lot of effort to bring you the stuff you’re looking for.  Most of the content is not unique, but it’s of good quality if this is the stuff you’re looking for.

Usability ** This site is not easy to navigate (See “Design”).  I also found it cumbersome finding quality material to visit… Ultimately, after 5 minutes of perusing this site I felt like I had too much too drink and rode a merry-go-round.  I do like that Trent uses things like the RSS reader, a calender, and a navigation bar… they’re just difficult to find.

A heads up for everybody else trying to start a fashion, celebrity, or pop culture website… It doesn’t give you immediate authority to build a website and write about these topics just because you’re gay.  Do research and find out how to build a pleasing and usable site to display your material… then let your imagination run wild.

Stuff White People Like +++

Here is a website dedicated to the stuff white people like.  The title of course is tongue in cheek.  The website, Stuff White People Like, is written by a man by the name of Christian Lander.  Don’t worry, he’s a white guy, but we shouldn’t worry even if he wasn’t.  “Why wouldn’t we worry?” some may ask.  Because what he writes is true… well, in a general way.

Christian tackles everything from “threatening to move to Canada,” to “making you feel bad about not going outside.”  Christian has a unique ability to stand back from every white-cultured scenario and chronicle the absurdities which are non-evident to those on the inside.  Hopefully with the details he reveals we can all learn a little bit more about ourselves, even if it’s at our own expense.

Final Review +++

I give “Stuff White People Like” 3 Spoon-fulls of Chowder.  The content is original and the author does a good job of revealing funny behaviors and activities that people say or do.  In my view, Christian is a comedian that performs material via his blog.  The website is also very functional and easy to navigate.

Design ++++ I’m a fan of white backgrounds with black text.  Designing your website in such a way makes it easy to read for most people.  Navigation tabs at the top makes it easy to get to and from the various posts and pages.  Great flow with this website.

Content +++ The content is definitely unique and I find it very entertaining and revealing.  Posts are not updated very regularly but when a new post comes out, it’s usually well thought out.  You won’t find much more than stuff white people like on this blog however (as the name implies) so after reading the current posts, you feel a lack for usefulness of the content.  Great job overall however.

Usability +++ Good job on usability with this site.  There are tabs at the top that link to a page of all of the stuff white people like, and the RSS feed is easy to access at the top of the page.  The only problem I see with this site, and that I see with many sites, is that there are too many posts on the front page.  This causes the scroll bar to become too condensed at the right of the screen and can make it difficult for some people to click their mouse on the bar in order to drag the page up and down.  Aside from that, the site is almost perfect concerning usability.

Christian is not a Chowderhead Blogger, however, he is definitely white because he likes blogging about stuff that white people like.

unreasonable faith ++++

This website was submitted to me recently.  unreasonable faith is a site dedicated to Daniel Florien’s thoughts on faith, science, and skepticism.  Daniel, a former evangelical Christian, examines what he believes are hypocrisies, bizarre beliefs and teachings, and other strange happenings going on in the religious community.

This site is informative if you’re looking for information about faith, are questioning your own faith, or would just like another point of view.  This isn’t just another atheist “bash god blog.”  The author has credibility as you can read from his about page.

Final Review ++++

I give “unreasonable faith” 4 Spoon-fulls of Chowder.  The content is unique, the source is credible.  The layout is clean and easy to read and I found usability to be one of the better features as the author provided many links to good articles and further readings on various pages of his site.  Overall a well thought out and well put together website and blog.

Design ++++ Very soft and pleasant to look at.  The header image is very pleasing and relaxing.  The posts are organized well and subscribing to feeds is a cinch.  4 Spoons of Chowder here.

Content +++ The content is very entertaining and the blog is updated very regularly.  That’s a good and bad thing however.  I couldn’t give 4 Spoons of Chowder here because while the blog is updated regularly, which I like, it’s updated too regularly creating some low quality posts.  However, most of the posts are of high quality even though it’s updated very often.  3 Spoons of Chowder.  Good job.

Usability ++++ Great job on usability with this site.  I can navigate to and from posts easily, see a “best of” which is divided into “for believers” and “for skeptics” which I think is brilliant.  There are additional pages with links to quality external readings which is great.  4 Spoons of Chowder here.

There’s definitely not a chowderhead running this blog.  Great job Daniel and keep up the good work.
