unreasonable faith ++++

This website was submitted to me recently.  unreasonable faith is a site dedicated to Daniel Florien’s thoughts on faith, science, and skepticism.  Daniel, a former evangelical Christian, examines what he believes are hypocrisies, bizarre beliefs and teachings, and other strange happenings going on in the religious community.

This site is informative if you’re looking for information about faith, are questioning your own faith, or would just like another point of view.  This isn’t just another atheist “bash god blog.”  The author has credibility as you can read from his about page.

Final Review ++++

I give “unreasonable faith” 4 Spoon-fulls of Chowder.  The content is unique, the source is credible.  The layout is clean and easy to read and I found usability to be one of the better features as the author provided many links to good articles and further readings on various pages of his site.  Overall a well thought out and well put together website and blog.

Design ++++ Very soft and pleasant to look at.  The header image is very pleasing and relaxing.  The posts are organized well and subscribing to feeds is a cinch.  4 Spoons of Chowder here.

Content +++ The content is very entertaining and the blog is updated very regularly.  That’s a good and bad thing however.  I couldn’t give 4 Spoons of Chowder here because while the blog is updated regularly, which I like, it’s updated too regularly creating some low quality posts.  However, most of the posts are of high quality even though it’s updated very often.  3 Spoons of Chowder.  Good job.

Usability ++++ Great job on usability with this site.  I can navigate to and from posts easily, see a “best of” which is divided into “for believers” and “for skeptics” which I think is brilliant.  There are additional pages with links to quality external readings which is great.  4 Spoons of Chowder here.

There’s definitely not a chowderhead running this blog.  Great job Daniel and keep up the good work.

27bslash6 ++

I am a fan of 27bslash6.  David holds no punches when it comes to sarcastically making fun of friends and strangers.  He doesn’t want you to read his posts however, so don’t visit his site.  David posts some of his back and forth email conversations that he’s had with people such as the chiropractors office to which he owed some money, and a reader that thought one of his posts was offensive.

He also bashes some of his friends for their affinities such as liking unicorns or dolphins.  By the way, is Lucious gay?  David gives plenty of ‘true?’ examples of why he thinks so.

I like the format of this site.  Easy to read and navigate.  Merchandise for sell, and plenty of opportunities to contact the owner of the site as links to his email to complain or send him porn are on every page.

Final Review ++

I give “27bslash6″ 2 spoon-fulls of Chowder.  The content is unique, the layout easy to follow, and a great site to waste some time with and get a laugh.  One downfall is that the site is not updated very often so after reading the content, you may not be back for a while.

Design ++ Easy on the eyes, good flow.  2 spoons of Chowder here.

Content ++ The content is great in my opinion.  Very original and the author articulates his point of view well and has a great vocabulary.  The author could have scored a perfect for content if the site was updated regularly with more of the same high quality content.  Also, an ‘About’ page is always a must for any personal website or blog so the reader can get to know a little bit about the author’s background.

Usability +++ This site is easy to navigate and easy to read.  The font and colors don’t strain the eyes so I can spend some time reading the content.  However, there’s not a whole lot to the site once you read the posts so there’s not much to use after that.  You can buy merchandise, but I already have enough t-shirts and coffee mugs.

i am neurotic +

I believe I Stumbled Upon this website a couple weeks ago.  This website allows people to submit various neurosis they may have and have them published.  It’s pretty amusing, good for a laugh, and a site you can waste some time with.  I thought it was a great idea to encompass the broad range of phobias and other mental disorders under the umbrella of “neurosis,” in order to get the most bang for the buck.

The font is clean and easy to read and there’s not much clutter so it’s very easy to navigate.  The Author updates the site fairly regularly which keeps the blog alive.

Final Review +

I give “i am neurotic.” a 1 Spoonful of Chowder blog rating.  I thought the idea was great and the site is clean.  However, the site could be improved quite a bit.

Design ++ Simple.  Basic.  Clean.  2 spoons of Chowder.

Content ++ I struggled with whether or not to give 1or 2 spoons of Chowder on this one.  The content is user-submitted so the author really doesn’t have to do much in order to provide content, giving it only 1 spoonful of Chowder.  Also, I’d like to see a home page or an about page for the author so I could get more familiar with the author. However, I gave the site some additional chowder for it’s author choosing good content to display and keeping the blog alive by posting frequently.  2 spoonfuls of Chowder.

Usability *  Here’s where some of you may disagree with me.  I gave the site 1 Chowderhead for Usability.  While the site is obviously easy to navigate and use, there’s really not much to the site.  I found myself getting bored after reading a few posts and hitting some of the links on the right side bar.  Usability is fine… but that’s easy when there’s not much to use.  However, since the author updates the site frequently, I will be back, which is why I gave it extra Chowder for Content.
